In Michelle Malkin  colum "Civility and Tolerance in the Age of Obama" of Aprill 22 2009 i see things this way.

What always seems to be forgotten here is that President Obama is of mixed race. He is part black by his Kenyan father and part white by his American mother. For the most part he chooses to play up his Kenyan side. I applaud President Obama for having the view of one man one woman as the definition of marriage; and leaving it to civil unions. If civil unions are deficient in rights to a marriage than modify the law to make them equivalent. There is no reason a gay or lesbian couple cannot have a formal ceremony full of guest with a willing efficient. However, the law should not supersede clergy in this mater. They should not be forced co conduct these functions if they are morally opposed to gay or lesbian marriage.

By the same token both Mr. Hilton and the Miss California pageant need to respect others rights as well. Ms. Carrie Prejean simply stated her belief and also stated that she did not wish to offend anyone, especially Mr. Hilton. It did not seem to me that Ms. Prejean would be the type to actively and publicly demonstrate for this belief and try to impose it via her position as Ms. California. However, in a move, I see as strictly political, in order to appease a markedly powerful segment of California society and seem more tolerant of others nationally as well. Mr. Hilton and the Miss California pageant threw her under the bus. Hilton by resorting to gutter language designed to get more people to follow him on the net out of curiosity than anything else.

Ms. Prejean was asked a direct question designed by Mr. Hilton to get a big response no matter what. If she were in support of gay lesbian marriage roomers may have come out that she is not morally acceptable to represent California. She had to go with her belief and this proves her strong moral character. Mr. Hilton trades on gossip good and bad. He knows that dirt sells more than clean gossip. All that seems to matter is his fan base; he seems to do anything to make it grow on the net and else ware. I suppose I cannot fault him for that, but in this case I think he went too far in defending his point of view. I believe ms.  Prejean should serve out her term as a person of strong personal beliefs. A woman of character for California who respects other beliefs and deserves to have hers respected too.
